Other Leigh Paintings Also Reported Missing

Another compelling mystery has been raised by a correspondent who asked for information on a painting titled "The Land of My Fathers." (Note, "my" fathers.) So the search commenced and many of our contacts responded, suggesting the painting might be titled differently. The image is of an Indian chief, sitting on a cliff, gazing thoughtfully into the colorful landscape before him. But our contact, responding to the information, says it is not Master of His Domain, the Denver Art Museum's masterpiece (page 82 in the DuBois biography), nor is it Land of His Fathers, the 1916 painting of an Indian shepherd boy seated on a rock (looking to the viewer's right) nor is it Land of the Navajos--Young Indian Goat Herder painted in 1948 (with the subject and his dog looking to the viewer's left).

We'd like to know the location, too, of another Leigh - West Virginia Farm Boy (page 1 in the DuBois biography).

Another correspondent, Kay Williams, asked for information on another Leigh work, An Old Time Cake Walk. She'd found a print in an antique shop and wanted background. None of the experts we contacted had ever bumped into the painting. The image is of a group of black people dancing. We'd also like to receive information on another Leigh painting, a group of black men playing cards.

As always, we'd appreciate hearing from anyone with information about any of these missing works.
