Leigh was most famous for his Western scenes, but a list of Leigh's works includes many other subjects: The Midnight Ride of Paul Revere which hangs at the Old North Church, Boston. The panoramic views of Africa, still a major attraction at the Museum of Natural History, New York City. Sophie Hunter Colston, a painting of his cousin, at the Smithsonian's National Museum of American Art, Washington, D.C. (Arguably one of Leigh's greatest paintings). A variety of West Virginia subjects such as "Loitering," "West Virginia Woodcutter" and scenes of the Potomac River near his birthplace. He also illustrated books written by others and by himself, the latter including Continent of Enchantment and the highly prized Western Pony. Leigh's work can be found at major art institutions around the nation, especially those specializing in Western Art. Sadly, at this time, there is but one Leigh work on public view in his native state of West Virginia. It is at the Boarman Arts Center in Martinsburg. The Foundation, with help from the public hopes to exhibit many more. The most extensive collection of Leigh's work is at the Gilcrease Museum, Tulsa, OK. Other institutions with canvasses of note include the Rockwell Museum in Corning, NY; Woolaroc, Bartlesville, OK; National Cowboy Hall of Fame, Oklahoma City, OK; The Buffalo Bill Historical Center, Cody, WY; National Museum of Wildlife Art, Jackson Hole, WY; and a galaxy of Arizona art museums including Desert Caballeros Western Museum, Wickenburg; Arizona State University in Tempe; the Tucson Art Museum and the University of Arizona Art Museum, Tucson; the Hubbell Trading Post, Ganado; the Museum of Northern Arizona, Flagstaff; and the Amerind Museum in Dragoon.
